One Bad Apple

Our Kennewick, Washington neighborhood has, with one great exception, been a quiet place for all the years I have lived here.  Neighbors know each other and help, whether it be with lifting something heavy into the back of a truck or searching for a missing child, is always next door or across the street.  It's a great place to live :)

One notable exception being the woman we refer to as "Satan".

Satan, in spite of carrying heavy stones or tossing logs while doing yard work, has managed to deceive enough people in our government to qualify for full disability citing a 'bad back'.  Now, with no financial worries she gets bored and uses her telephone to harass, attack and generally cause problems for those living close to her.

A few weeks ago,  some of us in the neighbor hood applied for and later received a detailed 18 month account of Satans various complaints against us.  In that 18 months, she contacted the police, fire department, code enforcement, health department, burn line, irrigation district and possibly other "authorities" no less than 60 times.  Some of these reports were for genuine code violations like 12" tall weeds in the back field.  Others were outright lies as in when she reported a neighbor for an illegal fire during a burn ban.  That time I was eye witness to the neighbor NOT having a fire and Satan having a fire.

But the harassment does not end there.  After reporting one of us for a terrible infraction, like 12" tall weeds, she will taunt the neighbor by calling out over the fence, "I see it does work to report you."

How often does this happen?  Well, we all know the code enforcement lady by her first name and the cops are at her house so often that a rumor has started that she is sleeping with a cop.
